Achieving A Stress Free Working Life

Achieving a stress free working life

Over stressed employees do not perform to the best of their abilities and business as a result can be affected both financially and organisationally.
Although manageable stress in the work place during hectic periods can be a healthy stimulant to activate the required adrenalin levels to help you cope, prolonged and high levels of stress can after a time, lead to physical and mental illnesses.

Stress can manifest itself in a number of forms at both work and at home. Irritability, a lack of motivation and the inability to sleep well.

So how can you manage stress in the workplace...

Breaks – take regular short breaks and also make a habit of having your lunch break away from your desk. See the HSE’s guides for time limits on working on computers.

Holidays – Have a regular break every 2 to 3 months. Even if you don’t have the budget for a big holiday, take a day off or two around the weekend and give yourself that short city break that your body and mind have been yearning for.

Employer – speak to your boss if you have any concerns. Plan your timetable, go through your tasks, liaise with colleagues and keep the key figures in the loop as to how you are feeling.

Exercise/hobbies - regular exercise and hobbies can help clear your mind and lead to better sleep. Take up running, a yoga class or even learn to play a musical instrument. It’s never too late to learn!

Make time for friends and family or even socialise with your work colleagues from time to time.
