Onboarding - A Quick Guide

A three step guide to successfully onboarding new staff

Starting a new job for most people is an experience wrapped with a mix of emotions - Excitement, apprehension and a desire to impress. This is what makes a company’s onboarding process for a new employee an essential part of successfully integrating them in to the team and culture of the company. However, with the new normal of starting a job from a kitchen table or the spare room, this is a process that can be easily overlooked. To assist you, we have put to together a quick three point guide to help your new employee make a positive start…

Commence onboarding early
Send new joiners information about the company culture and projects they will be working on before their start date. This will give them the opportunity to digest the information and feel more prepared on day one.

Promote communication
Ensure new employees get their IT set up quickly so that they have access to the digital workplace. This is essential for them to get familiar with the flow of the team more quickly.

Create a sense of belonging
New remote employees can easily feel isolated and like they don’t really belong to a team. Check-in with them regularly and let them know where to turn for feedback or to ask any questions. Providing them with supporting materials is also very important to encourage them to collaborate with other team members and build the team spirit. Also, promoting virtual meet ups, such as online coffee and a general catch up.
