How To Retain Staff

 How to retain staff

In today’s employment climate, key employee retention is vital for most businesses to survive.
Losing key staff can damage morale, highlight gaps in your organisation and ultimately affect a company’s profitability.

The key to retention...

Transparency - Staff thrive on it but alas business owners and executives, not so much. Key workers are naturally more inquisitive and desire to know the detailed plans, workings and decision making process of a company. This should be encouraged with the utilisation of 360 reviews, which foster reciprocal honesty and can lead to increased engagement within the workforce.

Training – Star performers are always striving to improve themselves . Afford them the opportunity to allow this to happen. Encourage staff to take up new skills with training programmes that show them that you are serious about their long-term aspirations.

Praise - A lack of praise or feeling underappreciated has been one of the key factors for two thirds of staff looking to change their jobs. Never assume an apparently contented member of staff is necessarily happy with just receiving their salary at the end of the month (see Unexpected reasons employees quit, even when you thought they were happy )

Culture – Great organisations are aware of the critical impact that a positive company culture can have on their commercial success. It is this fabric of the company that keeps employees from seeking employment elsewhere. These invisible guidelines dictate how people within an organisation work with one another. This will feed through to people who use your business and distinguish you from your competitors and ultimately help you to keep and attract star talent. The contents of a positive culture is not an exhaustive list but you can start with respect, sense of community, diversity, recognition and reward, amongst many other positives.
